Hi, my name is Inge, and I'm in AP English Literature.
Let's see...What is everyone's favorite book to write about?
Mine is Wuthering Heights because I love contasting the Gothic beginning and the Domestic end. Also, the first person narration within a first person narration is very cool. It is such a fun book.
Does anyone else like Wuthering Heights? What other books? I need something to read.

current mood: Is that a mood?

I'm in AP English (sort of...I'm taking it over the summer...) and we have to read Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad...and there's one question I have to answer, and I don't know how to (because the book is too complex for my tiny little brain...):

1. What did Europeans know about Africa and how did that shape how they
thought about this largely unknown place?

2. What does it mean to chart new territory-territory already inhabited by others?

3. Why did Europeans call Africans "savages"?

4. Why did people want to colonize Africa?

These answers are due today...sadly...so I REALLLY need help!!! Thx in advance!!!!

I'm hoping someone can tll me what a good passage in Jude the Obscure would be to refer to reagarding sex, for my exam tomorrow. More specifically, how sex is dealt with in the text, so I need an example from the book.

Thank you very much in advance.

10:38 pm - We're all gone

So, uh

I'm going to college in 2 weeks. I really want to know my schedule for this year, but everything I want to take has to be applied for and I really really really despise anything that mixes summer with essays.

I have to review the calc I haven't done since soph/jun year. Either that or I can flunk multivariable. My textbook is sooo cool though it doesn't have those crappy annoying color photos of like balloons and airplanes and cars. Just pretty math.

My head aches. My sparse summer reading this year consisted of a mix of evolutionary biology, religion, philosophy, and Ayn Rand novels. I'm reading Atlas Shrugged but I have a feeling that the terrifying Black Book of Calculus will take priority.

What are you guys doing?

i'm home, and i'm bored. and i already updated my own livejournal, so i decided to update in this one too. the worst part about staying home from school is that when you're not busy being sick, you are busy being bored. oh, and the medication makes you kind of ridiculous sometimes. i havent had anything to eat or drink since yesterday morning, except for two sips of water this morning. i'm really mad i missed english today, because we went to the library. how did that go? i need to find an article on my own now...any suggestions on any good articles you found? i hope everyone had good days. sorry this was so ridiculous.

hopelessx hey i am new here and in need of some help. for my AP Lit class we have to do a 3-4 minute oral presentation on some part of Joseph Conrad's novel "Heart of Darkness." the part i received was "archetypal and mythological approaches in the novel." fun, huh? lol. anyway.. i've tried searching the internet and have come up with next to nothing. if any of you have any information on this aspect of the novel or know of a good resource i would GREATLY appreciate it. thanks so much!

It has come to my attention that certain person(s) actually identify better with the lieutenant than with the whiskey priest. Specifically, they support the lieutenant's ideals and methods while disapproving of the priest's sins and hypocrisies as well as the Church's corruption.

So...

What do you think?
